TDP Music News: Local Band Grandview Release First Full Length

a3747130277_2Yesterday, local Burlington band, Grandview, released their first full length record titled Everything Between Paint and a Wall. The band’s LP includes eleven impressively composed tracks produced and engineered by Chris LaRocque and Steve Aliperta at the Billerica-based recording studio, Kennedy Studios. The band features all BHS alumni students including Billy Restivo on vocals and rhythm guitar, Lucas Restivo and Joshua Rosenberg on lead guitar, Mike Beland on bass, and Tom Rose on drums. Their previous EP, Absolutely Nothing, showcased their skill and served as evidence of each member’s impressive ability to work cohesively as a band, but on Everything Between Paint and a Wall, it is clear that this band is full of inherent talent, melodic sensibility, and authentic passion for the music they create. From start to finish, the album is emotionally heart-wrenching, both lyrically and musically, but also expresses a vast array of different moods and atmospheres that significantly add to the overall versatility and diversity of the record. All of the eleven tracks express the band’s dynamic capability with their wonderfully appropriate use of riveting highs and chilling lows while they are also able to highlight their equally captivating structural creativity with various stylistic approaches to each track. With Everything Between Paint and a Wall, Grandview have cemented their role as one of the most impressive and talented acts in the Boston music scene. Check out the album on the band’s BandCamp page below!

TDP Recommends: Atlantic Manor- “Pull”

Atlantic Manor – a collaboration between BHS Devils’ Playist’s very own   and BHS alumnus, and lead singer of Grandview, Billy Restivo – digitally released their first track “Pull” earlier this week. The song’s lyrical depth presents cries of altered love, pleas for strength of action, and expressions of self questioning. The alternative sound starts slow, paralleling the wistful longing present in the early lyrics, and progresses to a powerful crescendo of percussion that culminates with frustrated questioning layered over a subtle screaming. Somehow simultaneously soft and loud, angry and affectionate, well crafted oppositions permeate the song and reflect the conflicting emotions present in changing relationships. The track, recorded at Billerica’s Kennedy Studios and engineered by BHS alumni Chris LaRocque and Nick Stewart, is a fantastic listen. Dig it, Devils!

Best Alternative Music of 2013

By
December 31, 2013

These songs are some of my personal favorites from 2013. In no particular order:

images1) “It Wants What It Wants” by Andrew Belle
It’s always great to find an artist that you’ve never heard of before in a genre of music that is relatively foreign to you. Andrew Belle was that artist for me in 2013. Listening to this track from his August release Black Bear never fails to calm me down and put me in a good mood. The atmosphere of the song is ethereal.

2) “Keepsake” by Balance and Composure
There’s always a sort of tension behind waiting to hear a band’s sophomore record after a dauntingly successful debut, and on their follow-up record, Balance and Composure were able to impress with a plethora of tracks with guitar-heavy, lyrically deep, and dark moods, best exemplified by this track “Keepsake.”

Unknown3) “Pompeii” by Bastille
Rarely do I hear a song on the radio that I thoroughly enjoy, but Bastille has created an exception. This track is both commercially accessible and universally enjoyable. The chorus is catchy yet not too reminiscent of any other top 40 single, and the lyrics for this song aren’t unnecessarily explicit garbage. “Pompeii” is just a feel-good jam.

4) “The Summer” by Citizen
This record has shot Citizen into the alternative music scene with full force, and this single from their 2013 release Youth is the perfect example as to why the band has gained so much popularity. The song’s pensive lyrics, swaying vibes, and dark atmosphere make for a captivating listen.

TCAS PROMO5) “Graves” by The Color and Sound
This song is an absolute party, and not to mention one of the unique songs I’ve heard in a long time. This track combines elements of folk, indie, alternative, all wrapped up with a wonderfully catchy poppy chorus. And there’s a banjo. What’s not to love?

6) “To the Sun” by Grandview
Even from a biased perspective, this song is just impressive. “To the Sun” captures the overall lyrical depth and stylistic complexity of Grandview’s new record and highlights just how much they have grown as a band.

images7) “Ways to Go” by Grouplove
I recommended this as a ‘Dig It, Devils!’ post a few weeks back, and this song is still as a bumpin’ and fun as it was then. This song is perfect for one of those mediocre days when you just need to be cheered up.

8) “In On It” by Daylight
From the perspective of an avid listener of 90s music like myself, this song and this record hits close to home. This song is brooding as it is wonderfully grungy.

9) “Hands” by Moving Mountains
I am a fan of songs with dreamscape-esque repetitive sections that build, build, and build some more throughout, and this song delivers on just that. I am also a fan of post-rock influence alternative music, and this song by Moving Mountains satisfies on all fronts creating an easy and enjoyable listen.

Unknown10) “There, There” by The Wonder Years
Watching a band that you were once not really a fan of prove you wrong with a new song or album is always an interesting situation, especially in the case of the Wonder Years. While I was not a huge fan of much of their past material, this track from their new album undeniably shines through, regardless of my preconceived notions with its haunting lyrics and impressive instrumentation.

11) “Shame” by The Dear Hunter
The Dear Hunter, a captivatingly genre-bending artist, drew me into his new album with this outstandingly unique track with its amazing compositional complexity and musicality.

12) “Skyline” by Gates
With a song that has a title to perfectly describe the atmosphere of the track, Gates have created a masterpiece of compositional skill that evokes an awe-inspiring melodic atmosphere characterized by carefully-crafted guitar work and amazing cohesion that will leave listeners with a sense of existential perplextion.

13) “Let’s Talk About Your Hair” by Have Mercy
Rising local band Have Mercy truly impressed me with this stand out track from their debut album The Earth Pushed Back not only with the heart-wrenching lyrics and vocals but also with its well done loud-to-soft sections and absolutely huge grooves.

TDP Music News: Local Band The Dirty Looks Release New Single “Catholic Radio”

catholic radioAfter writing three different records over the past year and ultimately deciding to scrap all of them, it seems as though Burlington, MA-based band The Dirty Looks have been through it all. Despite these recent challenges, after a creative burst that consisted of about a week and a half of constant writing, the band created four songs they were truly proud of and recorded them in just three days. Being the first single from this upcoming EP, “Catholic Radio” expresses just how much this persistence benefitted the band as a whole. With a sound characterized by beautifully articulated guitar parts and grooves that are undeniably jammin’, this single creates a perfect mesh between conscientious, well thought-out musicality and a universally enjoyable rock attitude. In addition to the track’s impressive cohesiveness, “Catholic Radio” has arguably the band’s catchiest chorus to date and acts as a beautiful first single, enticing listeners to check out the rest of the upcoming EP. The track simultaneously sets high expectations for the rest of the songs that The Dirty Looks are sure to fulfill. So what should you do, Devils? Why not give “Catholic Radio” a listen? It’ll be your next jam!

TDP Music News: Mumford & Sons Not Breaking Up

Mumford & SonsSince September, when Mumford & Sons announced that the group would be going on a temporary hiatus, the band has remained relatively quiet with their endeavors until the quartet’s banjo player, Winston Marshall, recently broke the silence. Last night in an interview withVulture, Marshall stated that the band was no more. “It’s over,” he said, “We had a good time, though, you know. It was good.” Today, multiple representatives for the band confirmed that Marshall was just making some kind of bad joke, meaning for the remark to be taken in jest. Despite the fact that the band will not be breaking up any time soon, Mumford & Sons will continue their hiatus for the time being.

TDP Music News: Smashing Pumpkins to Release Two New Albums in 2015

Smashing PumpkinsSmashing Pumpkins frontman, Billy Corgan, recently announced that the band will release two albums in 2015: Monuments To An Elegy and Day For Night. In terms of what fans should expect for a sound, Corgan stated on the band’s website, ” Think: ‘guitars, guitars, guitars, and more guitars’; but more so on the epic side of things than say, grossly metallic.” With many of the songs ready to record, the band  and Howard Willing, producer of their 1998 album Adore,  hit the studio on Tuesday. The Smashing Pumpkins plan to release a new single by the end of 2014.

TDP Music News: Blink-182 Unlikely to Release New Music by Early Summer

Blink-182For all Blink-182 fans looking forward to a possible follow-up to the band’s 2012 EP Dogs Eating Dogs, it seems as though this dreams may not come true as soon as once thought. According to past interviews and information from the band’s members, Blink-182 should have begun to record their next album already, but it has become evident that guitarist Tom Delonge, bassist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Travis Barker have failed to meet up in the studio yet.

In a recent interview with Noisey, Barker expressed that meeting and attempting to record new music with Hoppus and Delonge has been a “challenge,” but regardless, he can’t wait set a time to hit the studio that works for all of them. Barker hopes that the band can still meet up to record before playing the Reading and Leeds music festivals this summer. Despite his confidence in that there will be a follow-up record in the near future, Barker didn’t necessarily show full confidence as to if Blink would be able to release new music as soon as late spring/ early summer like originally planned. Check out part of the interview below:

Are there any ideas of where you’re going musically with the Blink stuff, I know you are doing Reading and Leeds so originally there was talk of that deadline?
I definitely wanted new stuff, it’s just not everything worked out to where in the band could be available to record new stuff, so it’s been kind of a challenge.

How much does it keep music fresh for you then, to be able to do all these different projects?
When I was home, I played on a Rusko song, I played on something for Datsik, I played on a bunch of albums all week long because the end of the day, man, Blink, you gotta have three people that are all willing to record and write music at the same time. If it can’t happen, that can’t be the end of the world for me. I gotta have other stuff to do or I would fucking claw my eyes out. So being with the Transplants, working on my solo album, until the stars align for Blink to be in the studio I gotta just stay busy. We’re supposed to go in before Reading or Leeds sometime so hopefully it happens.

TDP News: ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ Turns 50

cooke2_custom-ae5445405a69dbde65787c691849562cf6bf09c0-s4-c85It was fifty years ago this week that Sam Cooke recorded one of the most important songs in American history.  The political message in “A Change is Gonna Come,” touted by Rolling Stone as “one of the greatest songs of all time,” quickly became an anthem for civil rights activists after it was released on Cooke’s album Ain’t That Good News in March of 1964. Sam Cooke, one of the few artists able to crossover from gospel to pop, did so with love songs like “You Send Me,” which went to number one on the pop charts; thus, recording this socially conscious song intended to serve as a vehicle for political change was a risky career move. Although Cooke did not want to alienate his new and growing audience with a song that encapsulated the feelings and experiences of many black Americans of the time, and highlighted the social issue that is arguably the most divisive in American history, he felt that “he could not ignore the moral outrage right in front of him” (NPR Music). The song did cause controversy and Cooke felt the impact of its message on those who were not ready to hear it. He and his band were turned away from shows and hotels; he was arrested and jailed for disturbing the peace; his family feared for his life. Cooke didn’t often play the song publicly, partly because of its complex arrangement and partly because of the threat that it could incite violence. It was not initially favored by his fans, mainly because it was not scheduled to be released as a single until December of 1964, nine months after the album dropped. Sam Cooke was shot to death at a motel in Los Angeles just before that release.

Cooke biographer, Peter Guralnick, discusses the song as being one with a message not isolated to the civil rights movement, but rather as a song with “a universal message of hope…that does not age.” “A Change is Gonna Come” has a lasting impact on all who hear it. Guralnick states that “Generation after generation has heard the promise of it…We all feel in some way or another that a change is gonna come.” The message is “almost endlessly adaptable to whatever goal, whatever movement” that needs Cooke’s voice. It was, however, the civil rights movement that inspired it, and Cooke’s voice in this song will forever echo the struggle and the courage of those who fought (and continue to fight) for racial equality in America.

TDP Music News: Spotify, Pandora to be Challenged by Beats Music

January 22, 2014 by  Leave a Comment (Edit)

beats music

Pandora, Spotify, and iTunes Radio face another formidable opponent in the subscription music service scene, Beats Music, which was made available in the US today – January 21st. Under the management of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine – record producer and music executive extraordinaire – the service is looking to expand the duo’s hugely successful ‘Beats by Dr. Dre’ headphones into a larger brand. The company hopes to capitalize on that success in exposing their service to the public, while simultaneously working to revolutionize the music streaming industry by being able to answer the question, “Which song should come next?”

Without knowing more about it, Beats Music might seem strikingly similar to other music subscription services like Spotify, offering the ability to stream and listen to as much music as anyone could want for the flat price of $10 a month. But where Beats Music diverges is in its ability to create a product that is impressively sleek, easy-to-use, and enticing, much like the unprecedentedly popular Beats headphones. Iovine, Dre, and “Chief Creative Officer” Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) are hoping the unique app experience will lure users into trying the service, which boasts a relatively original feature; where other, bland, heavily algorithm-based music subscription services fail to create a continuous playlist with any sense of cohesiveness or soul, Beats Music is looking to dominate with its ability to create a perfect personal playlist, curated by music experts, for everyone. As additional incentive, Beats Music offers a family account, up to five accounts, for $15, something currently not offered by any of its competitors.

What do you think, Devils? Are you open to change? Or will you stay loyal to Spotify or Pandora?

TDP Music News: Phony “Rock Star” Scams Banks Out of 11 Million Dollars

January 9, 2014 by  Leave a Comment (Edit)

Robery MahwinneyABC recently covered the perplexing story of Robert Mawhinney, a 30 year-old self-proclaimed international “rock star” who was formerly singer of the Los Angeles band, Light Over Paris. By doctoring loan application documents, he was able to get four separate banks to believe that he had almost $8,000,000 in assets. With these deceptive techniques, he obtained $11 million and funded absurdly luxurious all night parties, several Los Angeles apartments, as well as a $750,000 custom touring van for the band.  According to friends, he truly believed he was the next “rock star,” hoping to rise up to the top of the charts and become the new Blink-182. Recently, Mawhinney was sentenced to seven years in prison for these fraudulent actions. Check out ABC’s coverage of the story by clicking on the link below:

TDP News: Beyonce Releases a New Album

beyonce-3.26.2013The exclusive to iTunes release of her self-titled album, Beyonce, earlier today marks an unprecedented move for the pop icon. Her fifth LP contains 14 tracks and features an impressive group of contributors, including Justin Timberlake, Drake, Frank Ocean, and Pharrell. Beyonce has described this work as a “visual album,” and developed 17 videos to correspond with the songs on the LP. The singer’s intent in releasing the album unannounced and in this format was to make the message to her fans more direct, limiting all that comes between the artist and the music and the fans.

According to one of her representatives, Beyonce will be available for purchase in stores just in time for the holidays.

TDP Music News: Arcade Fire Issue Dress Code

November 26, 2013 by  Leave a Comment (Edit)

arcade fireIn a rather alienating announcement, the band Arcade Fire recently mandated a formal dress code for upcoming shows that has left some fans rather perplexed. Casual fans looking to buy a ticket for one of the band’s upcoming shows in support of their new album “Reflektor” were greeted on the TicketMaster page with the subtle message, “Please wear formal attire.” While some found this statement entertaining, many others felt as though the band was acting rather pretentious with their high expectations of their fans, disregarding the fact that much of the tour was taking place in large arenas where sloppy food and drinks are more than prevalent. From a band that has only just recently achieved mainstream success, Arcade Fire surely cannot already be taking their newfound popularity for granted. Fans do not have to worry about the suggestion being rigidly enforced, which was confirmed by the band with their Facebook post on November 21st addressing the issue which wrote:

“To everyone really upset about us asking people to dress up at our shows… please relax. It’s super not mandatory. It just makes for a more fun carnival when we are all in it together. So far these have been the best shows we have ever played.

See you soon.

Love,

Arcade Fire”

While some have condemned the band for a lame attempt at advertisement, others seemed equally excited and ready to break out their nicest suit or most elegant dress. From a growing, relatively feel-good band like Arcade Fire, offending a large group of people and fans is most certainly not on the top of their priorities list. On the bright side, accountants and any formally dressed workers can now go straight to any of their upcoming dates.

We LOVE that senior Paul Barbieri, “backbone for Burlington Hockey,” makes music part of his pregame ritual, and we certainly don’t mind that his ritual includes The Foo Fighters’ “Pretender.” This track – the lead single on the band’s 2007 album Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace – presents powerhouse guitars and energetic builds that make it just about impossible to remain neutral while listening. Dave Grohl does not disappoint on this aggressive track.

Barbieri shares some qualities with Grohl, who pounded the drum kit for Nirvana before moving up to the mic as lead in the Foo Fighters. This high school goalie not only protects the net, a position not often associated with taking the lead; he is also a driving force steering the team. Coach Conceison describes him as a “powerful voice” in the locker room and on the ice. We’re not sorry that Grohl or Barbieri moved up to the front.

The choice of this song as a pregame pscyh-up makes perfect sense. Lyrically about confrontation, the track is conflict-oriented and can help any listener face an opponent. Much like Barbieri, it’s about standing up and standing out. Plus, it straight up rocks.

You can catch Barbieri and the Devils this Saturday at the Ice Palace, and the Foo Fighters at Fenway this July. Both shows are not to be missed. Dig it!

TDP Recommends: “Blissing Me”

Screen Shot 2017-11-24 at 11.21.02 AM.pngUtopia, the eighteenth release and ninth studio album from wonderfully strange alternative pop star Bjork, drops this week. If the first single, “Blissing Me,” is any indication, the album will not disappoint. With more than a dozen flutists credited in the liner notes mixed in with other sonic delights, such as “Venezuelan bird calls,” there is no question that Bjork fans will be delighted.

Following her last album, Vulnicura, a critically acclaimed break-up album that didn’t get a lot of love in pop culture, Utopia is intended to be a brighter, lighter release.  This single certainly fits that description. Full of romance and hope, “Blissing Me,” is an airy song with classical baroque sounds combined with unabashedly contemporary lyrics about two music nerds texting each other MP3s. Within this beautifully electronic, harp-filled piece, Bjork thoughtfully declares, “I’m falling in love with a song,” and that’s just what we did when we heard this one.

TDP Recommends: Hiatus Kaiyote

I recently became obsessed with Hiatus Kaiyote after my voice teacher showed me some of their music. My music taste at the moment is mainly rooted in R&B and soul, so this band was right up my alley! The lead singer, Nai Palm, has such a unique quality to her voice that I almost immediately latched onto. She also has her own original music aside from that of the band and released her solo album Needle Paw, which I have also been listening to, in October. Her song “Crossfire/So Into You” is my current “I-put-this-on-repeat-for-days-because-I-love-it-so-much” song; it’s also on the TDP Editor’s Picks Spotify playlist, so you shoulddefinitely check it out if you’re interested! You won’t regret it, I promise.

Hiatus Kaiyote, which includes members Naomi “Nai Palm” Saalfield, Paul Bender, Simon Mavin and Perrin Moss, refer to themselves as a “future-soul” band. I definitely think is an accurate genre title, as their music has many qualities of soul music while also having a distinct, futuristic vibe. They use different types of sounds outside of the standard instrumentals, which is partially why I find this band so entertaining. Also, Hiatus Kaiyote utilizes a variety of tempos and intensities in their songs: some are smooth and flowing while others are more upbeat and faster-paced. I always look for these different dimensions of songs while listening to any band, and Hiatus Kaiyote is easily at the top of my list for ingenuity in this respect. I hope more people come to know and (hopefully) love them in all of their amazingness!

You can find Hiatus Kaiyote and Nai Palm’s albums on basically any music service (Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora, etc.). Here’s one of my favorites from Hiatus Kaiyote’s second-most recent album, Choose Your Weapon, called “Fingerprints”. Dig It, Devils!

TDP Recommends: Mondo Cozmo

This year, we are reaching out to students, faculty, and staff to let us know about what they are listening to right now. Our first Dig it, Devils! for the year is a guest post by Mrs. Janovitz. This is what’s playing from her headphones lately:

Mondo Cozmo is my new favorite! LA-based musician Josh Ostrander’s latest project has become my late summer obsession. It could be that he is clearly influenced by musicians who populated my playlists from just about every step in my musical discovery journey so far, or it could be that his songs have an energy I need right now. It doesn’t matter the reason, I am loving listening.

Screen Shot 2017-08-29 at 11.29.20 PM.pngHis genre-bending sound moves from nostalgic to innovative, from folk to to Britrock, from Dylan to Spiritualized – and it does so seamlessly. I haven’t been this excited about a musician in a while. Ostrander has been kicking around in some relatively obscure indie groups on the music scene since he founded the alt-rock band Laguardia in 2000. I am hopeful that with Mondo Cozmo’s debut album Plastic Soul, he will shift from obscurity to recognition. Though you likely won’t hear this stuff over the loudspeaker for Music Mondays anytime soon, you just might catch it on your Discover Weekly.

Here is my  favorite track from the album, “Hold On To Me.” Dig it, Devils!

TDP Recommends: Archie Pelago

Technology today has not only facilitated the recording and producing of traditional music, but also has spurred on the synthesis of totally new and exciting branches of sound design and performance. New York-based “creative collective” Archie Pelago combines the highly traditional and melodic tones of the cello and saxophone with the session management and creative beat-making capabilities of the DJ. Together with the aid of various digital and hardware tools, the trio of Cosmo D, Kroba, and Hirshi create eclectic and melody-driven songs and live mixes that retain the musical beauty and technical mastery of the instruments used, yet rebound with the energy of punchy electro-style beats and pulse of dance music. Archie Pelago’s marriage of the old and new is easy for non-musicians to enjoy while still providing the musical connoisseur and analyst with much to explore, study, and reflect upon. Check them out, Devils; you’ll dig them!

The trio’s latest EP, Lakeside Obelisk, is available on iTunes. You can also find an in-depth interview and authentic studio performance on the Ableton website at:

TDP Recommends: “Golden Twin” by Wild Ones

Wild OnesOften times, the best kinds of songs are those during which one can sit back, nod in rhythm, and just jam in silence. If you are looking for this euphoric kind of effect, look no further than the band known as the Wild Ones. Sporting a lush and equally infectious sound, the Portland, Oregon-based five-piece teams together to seamlessly amalgamate influences that include hardcore punk, techno, and classical. As one could assume, the product of these diverse influences is impressively unique, creating a sound that is best described as a blissful pop paradise with an intense focus on musicality. Being one of the catchiest and most enjoyable songs from their most recent release Keep This Safe, “Golden Twin” encapsulates all of the Wild Ones’ potential and expresses just how versatile their pop and electronica-laced tracks can be. Dig it, Devils!

TDP Recommends: ‘Side of the Road’ by Big Black Delta

Big Black Delta is the solo project of former Mellowdrone vocalist Jonathan Bates. In the 2013 song “Side of the Road,”  Bates creates this well balanced electronica/ indie masterpiece, which displays great creativity and a unique sound. Dig it, Devils!

TDP Recommends: M83 – “Wait”

You know what’s worse than getting rejected from a college? Getting waitlisted. The wait list is the purgatory (or limbo, if you’re into Inception) of the college admissions process, and last weekend I found myself hanging out in this very purgatory. After going through denial, anger, bargaining, and depression, I have reached the last stage of the five stages of grief: acceptance. Maybe something good will happen, and if it doesn’t, c’est la vie. Because in the end, all I could do is to, well, wait.

And what better way to celebrate the waitlist than by listening to the fittingly named “Wait”? Behind the cryptic, sparse lyrics is an ethereal piece of music, so much that “Wait” has transcended its status as a song – it is a journey. The accompanying video takes “Wait” even further: it becomes an experience. “Wait” is so immersive, all sense of time and space is lost, leaving you with a sense of calmness – you might as well be floating in a cumulus cloud. And when the cloud dissipates, maybe the wait will be over. Dig it, Devils!

TDP Recommends: Mavis Staples- “I Like The Things About Me”

In this groovy and moody song from her latest album One True Vine, Mavis Staples, a legendary American rhythm and blues and gospel singer, embraces her individuality.  Described as vocally-warm by critics and fans, since her beginnings as singer, Staples’s purpose for performing came from her passion for civil rights.  At only fifteen years old, she vocally lead the gospel band, the Staple Singers, often being mistaken for either a man or a grown woman because of the aforementioned warmth and lowness of her voice.  While the majority of her songs contain a religious message, “I Like The Things About Me” applies to all people who have struggled with their self-image.  The song focuses on the positive influence of the singer’s age onto her perception of herself.  The subtle saxophone complements Staples’s low and slow voice to emphasize the maturity within the lyrics, while the electric guitar adds a modern twist onto the classic genre of rhythm and blues.  Mavis Staples’s “I Like The Things About Me” is an overall success through its simple and relatable lyrics as well as its strong potential in empowering the listener.  Dig it, Devils!

TDP Recommends: “Flora” by Teen Daze

March 13, 2014 by  Leave a Comment (Edit)

teen dazeIf beautifully trippy dreams had a soundtrack, what would it consist of? The answer to that question is anything written by Matthew Halverson, an electronic solo artist who goes by the name “Teen Daze.” Inspired by the gorgeous forests and nature present throughout his homeland in British Columbia, Canada, Halverson took to writing his ”insular, droning ambient music” at the end of 2012 and hasn’t stopped since. He describes how rather than using his music as an escape or refuge from reality,  ”he simply engages his work with his reality, his physical world.” Whether you’re inspired by the vast power of nature or not, his electronic instrumentals use music to paint a mental image of beauty, serenity, and pure energy that is best described as utterly ethereal. Being one of the best tracks on his most recent release Glacier, “Flora” expresses the impressive capability of Halverson to create an electronic symphony with chill synthesizers, fluid melodies, and bobbing grooves that could calm a bull in a china shop. So if you need a moment to just sit back, relax, dissolve, and absorb the energy of your surroundings, why not have Teen Daze’s “Flora” help make your meditative experience that much better? Dig it, Devils!
